Myrtle Beach, SC - Three thousand six hundred golfers, 72 holes of intense stroke play competition, an 18-hole championship playoff, nightly parties and entertainment. It may sound like the U.S. Open from qualifying to conclusion, but the PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship is an event unlike any other.

Golfers from all 50 states and more than 20 foreign countries flock to Myrtle Beach, S.C., every year to participate in a tournament that provides the ultimate golf experience. Now in its 26th year, the World Amateur allows everyone from scratch golfers to 30+ handicappers to test their nerves and competitive resolve.

The tournament, which uses an intricate handicap formula to level the field, is open to all golfers ? men, women, young and old ? with a certified USGA handicap.

The World Amateur features six competitive divisions, ranging from men and women 49 and under to the super seniors (70+). Within the divisions, golfers are flighted by closely grouped handicaps. The event features between 60 and 70 flights and the winner of each advances to the Flight Winner's Playoff, an 18-hole shootout that determines the World Champion.

Graphite Design Shafts Were Used by the Winners of the Puerto Rican Open and the New Zealand Open

The winner of the Michael Hill New Zealand Open opted for a Graphite Design shaft in his 5-wood, while a T4 finisher used Graphite Design shafts in both his driver and 5-wood. The winner shot an amazing final round back-nine 30 which led to an 8-under 64 that gave him a three-stroke win at the event. Graphite Design maintains a strong presence on the Nationwide Tour with 59 shafts in play at the New Zealand Open.

almostGOLF kicks off 2009 College Tour

CULVER CITY, CA – The 2009 almostGOLF College Tour kicked off with the 2nd Annual Tri Delta Sorority almostGOLF Tournament at Loyola Marymount University and raised over $5,000 to benefit St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

The Epsilon Zeta chapter of Delta Delta Delta raises money for St. Jude’s through various philanthropic events. Their annual almostGolf Tournament transforms LMU’s Sunken Gardens and Alumni Mall into a full fledge day of golf including driving range, skills challenge and short course set up throughout the campus where students and parents can play a fun round of golf for a good cause.

This year saw a record turnout with over 350 students, parents, faculty and friends coming out to participate in this unique charity golf event. Event chairperson Bri Berlin noted “We were extremely pleased with the participation and support for our charitable event this year. By hosting our event with almostGOLF directly on campus it allows more people the opportunity to come out and play”.
