Innsbrook Golf Course

As anyone who plays the game knows, merely the mention of the name Arnold Palmer for most conjures memories of his victorious walks down the eighteenth fairway at Augusta, Sunday afternoon charges at the U.S. Open, or merely Arnold’s smile and was as he walked from any green. He exudes the best qualities of the sport . . . honest, humble, a successful businessman, a gentleman’s athlete. So when “The King” chose to collaborate on a new ‘Signature Course’ with the community developers of a sprawling 900 acre 19th century plantation on the Albemarle Sound in Northeast North Carolina, everyone involved was very excited. The plan for this incredible piece of property was to bring together all the best of country club living with a relaxed,
more rural-resort lifestyle. Five years later, Innsbrook Golf Club has opened with Arnold Palmer himself present to view what his vision has become, up close and personal. On May 9, 2008 a large crowd of Innsbrook property owners and friends joined in officially opening the course and to marvel, alongside Mr. Palmer, at the scope of this tremendous and challenging course.
Currently in North Carolina, there are 15 Signature Golf Courses designed by Arnold Palmer, and Innsbrook is the only one east of Raleigh and Interstate 95. It’s a course that not only wraps and winds over the 900 acres but also takes full advantage of the 13 ponds, the Albemarle Sound, and Salmon Creek, that combine to challenge even the most tried and true golf swings. Over the last 18 months, while the course has come together, each hole has received weekly evaluations, critiques, and above all else precision manicures. You can’t make grass grow any faster but the course superintendent and staff have proudly shown diligence, patience and above all else skill. The course is truly reaching it’s potential and offers up scenic and challenging holes.
Those privileged few who had opportunity to play it prior to it’s official opening, have provided much feedback. Players after
completion of their rounds use words and phrases such as “demanding”, “challenging”, “a thinking man’s course”, “brilliantly
designed”, but mostly they say, “I can’t wait until I come back.” When they return however they will find that with each new day Mr. Palmers creation takes on a new personality and transforms to offer a different set of obstacles and challenges. In other words, the course plays differently every round. While you’re trying to figure out how to shave 5 strokes off the next round, the course is already changing the rules . . . just the way ‘The King” planned. One player described the course as “…the best roller coaster ride I’ve ever been on.” Innsbrook already has a strong membership roster and has drawn interest from up and down the East Coast. From people looking for that second home, or for that early retirement lifestyle, or just to say they have a membership at an Arnold Palmer Signature Course, have really come out in record numbers. The sprawling residential community will take its lead from the meticulous detail of the course.
Innsbrook has been designed with the homeowner in mind, offering golf course views as well as stupendous views of the Albemarle Sound, all done while maintaining a level of privacy and gracious living on this rolling expanse of land and water.
And as if the golf course wasn’t enough, Innsbrook will also have its own boat launch
with a 184-slip boat basin. There’s easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway, the Chowan River, numerous creeks and of course the vast Albemarle Sound, making it a yachtsman’s dream. Boating is a big component of
life at Innsbrook and the location is an obvious draw for those that love the water as much as the greens. To add even more value, Innsbrook’s future includes amenities such as a magnificently designed Clubhouse with
meeting facilities, fine restaurant, a community recreation center with swimming pool, tennis courts, and fitness center. The folks that get to call Innsbrook home will be truly Innsbrook Golf Course blessed with many social and recreational activities to take advantage of.
From the time you are greeted at the community’s front gate, you will experience true southern hospitality. Located in the quiet town of Merry Hill, just 129 miles east of Raleigh, 75 miles west of the Outer Banks,
and 82 miles from Norfolk, VA. For some, including Arnold Palmer, another way to get to Innsbrook is by plane. There’s a small regional airport in nearby Edenton, NC (less than 20 minutes away), so if you choose to fly it’s an easy thing to do. Innsbrook is surrounded by small towns like Edenton, known as “The South’s Prettiest Small Town” along with Windsor, Williamston and Plymouth.
All offer convenient shopping within a 30 minute drive. The community of Innsbrook offers homesites, single family homes, and golf villas
that are all thoughtfully planned to work with the golf course as center stage. There are model villas being built right now so if you want to find out more stop by and see for yourself. The course will be private shortly, but right now, we invite you to golf on one of the newest and best courses in Eastern North Carolina.
